  • Pepper Spray Stinks!

    A bizarre incident back in March underscores the hazards of pepper spray when it’s misused. Fox 31 reported that five individuals were taken to the hospital following an unexpected odor investigation at an apartment building in the Sherrelwood neighborhood of Denver.

    Early Thursday morning (03/06), around 2:30 a.m., the Adams County Fire Rescue responded to reports of an unpleasant smell from an apartment located on Zuni Street. Initial concerns led to fears of a “meth lab,” prompting a swift response from local authorities. The Adams County Sheriff’s Office later revealed that the caller may have mistakenly interpreted the sight of needles in the area, leading them to spray an aerosol in the hallway.

    During the investigation, residents were evacuated as safety protocols were enacted. The Hazmat teams from North Metro Fire Rescue and Thornton Fire Department joined the scene to assess the situation.

    By 5:35 a.m., firefighters had entered the building to collect swab samples from the walls, which were subsequently tested using their hazmat equipment. The results confirmed the presence of pepper spray, prompting the re-admittance of residents who had been anxiously waiting outside.

    In the aftermath, four of the affected individuals managed to drive themselves to a local hospital, while one person required assistance from emergency responders. Thankfully, the full extent of their injuries has not been disclosed, but none appear to be serious.
